It was indeed an unforgettable weekend of fun, friendship, and skill-building at the Formative Academic Skills And Development School’s GSP Camping 2024 held last October 14-15! This year’s camp was with exciting activities designed to challenge and inspire our Girl Scouts.
The activities of the day started with recalling The Girl Scout Law and The Girl Scout Promise, a prominent part of being a Girl Scout, because it is not just words that should be said straight from the mouth only, but also from the heart, as they are words we should live in. Other activities included learning about the importance of learning trail signs and navigation by using a compass, bandaging, starting a fire from scratch, and how to tie several knots necessary for camping and outdoor survival. After doing so, a delightful lunch awaited each patrol on their assigned kitchen setups, replenishing their energy for the next activity waiting for them.
The next activity they needed to do was to play a series of games that tested not only their teamwork but also what they had learned from the previous activity. After the tiring series of games, all of them prepared for dinner and also for the cooking contest that definitely tested their cooking skills. Following after was the highlight of the day: the campfire! Everyone gathered around the crackling flames for a captivating campfire presentation. The Girl Scouts, from the elementary level to the secondary level, showcased each of their yells and role-plays, displaying fun acts that made everybody laugh.
After the various campfire presentations, it was time to prepare for the GSP Got Talent! Scouts from each patrol had a chance to perform on stage with their unique talents, be it singing, dancing, or even acting. This event was truly inspiring as all patrols cheered for each participant, not leaving one behind! After the wonderful portion of the creativity and talent showcase, it was time to get ready for a well-deserved night’s rest under the stars.
Day 2 started with an energetic Zumba session to get everyone energized and ready for the day. Following that was a Q&A session where Girl Scouts were asked about what they learned throughout the GSP camping. Each of the scouts shared their experiences and even got to share about how the camping made them closer to their team. The grand finale was the announcement of the winners for different categories from the previous day’s activities! Each team celebrated their achievements and hard work throughout the weekend.
Overall, this year’s GSP Camping was an incredible experience, filled with learning, laughter, and lasting memories!
