English: Connecting Cultures, Enriching Lives FASDS ENGLISH MONTH CULMINATION 2024

The much anticipated English Month Culmination was a resounding success held last November 29, 2024! Showcasing the incredible talent, skill, and hard work of all FASDS students in each grade level as well as their proficiency in using the English language. Hosted at the main school grounds, the event aimed to celebrate the language while giving a platform for the students to showcase various entertaining performances ranging from speech choirs to radio shows, and much more. Since this is an event celebrating English, learners and faculty alike get to wear costumes representing various characters in different forms of media, from preschool wearing superhero costumes to elementary dressing as anime characters, high school as Greek mythology, and senior high’s literary figures.

The event began with a parade around the school grounds to display the students’ wonderful costumes, accompanied by the exhilarating performance of the school’s DLBC members; afterward, students headed to their classrooms to pick the nominees for the best costume awards. Next were the wholesome performances of the nursery, preschool, and kindergarten learners. Nursery 1’s Dove and Swallow groups opened the presentation with a charming song and dance number to “Hokey Pokey” as well as “Heads, shoulders, knees, and Toes,” delighting audience members with their energy, then ending with a sweet and endearing solo performance of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” The other Nursery 1 section performed a similar number with the “Alphabet song.” Nurseries 2 to 4 kept the same energy with their performances, wrapping up with a poem recital of “My Body.” The kindergarten performed various dances, starting with Section Eagle’s Frozen-themed routine, followed by Section Flamingo’s lively high school-themed performance, and concluding with Section Hummingbird’s sincere praise and worship-themed dance. The kindergarten learners charmed the audience with their well-choreographed and engaging dance numbers, then concluded with a recital of “The Elephant,” which is a short story that teaches about the consequences of one’s actions.

After a short lunch break, it was time for the elementary and high school performances, starting with Grade 1’s poem recital of “This is My Body,” which was well-spoken and showed how much they developed English as a language. Next was Grade 2’s exhilarating performance on “I Have a Dream,” a beautiful poem about the desire for freedom. Grade 3 Hopeful performed an expressive and energetic showing of the poem “Try, Try Again,” reminding the audience of the need for hopeful determination. Following this is the Grade 4 Honest’s presentation of “Lightning Larry,” an entertaining and lively play about the life of a comedic hero as he saves citizens and defeats villains. Afterward, Grade 5 Charitable’s pantomime tells a story about man’s abuse of nature and his learning to care for it. The play featured stylish costumes, polished props, and excellent acting, serving as a serious and urgent reminder to care for our environment. Finally, Grade 6 performed a pantomime titled “Star Kingdom,” a story that tells of a girl, her friend, and her dog as they go on a quest to find the aforementioned “Star Kingdom.” Along their adventures, they meet an eccentric cast of characters such as a loyal knight, a benevolent witch, and much more. The play featured superb acting along with colorful costumes.

Grade 7 St. Therese performed a special choir presentation on the poem “The Road Not Taken,” which talks about the important decisions one must make in life. The performance delivered was not only expressive but also well choreographed, as they executed their actions with explosive energy. Grade 8 St. Francis delivered a fantastic speech choir presentation on the Bible story “The Good Samaritan.” Their performance stood out due to their engaging acting and well-executed choreography. Grade 9 St. Benedict enacted a radio broadcast show that had a variety of programs, such as a weather forecast, local news, and much more. The broadcasters spoke energetically but were still clearly heard, and the quality of their forecasts made their enactment more captivating. Grade 10 voiced an excellent radio drama, a story about an Indian transfer student, coupled with amazing voice acting and sound effects, which left a lasting emotional impact on audiences. Grade 11 St. Lorenzo Ruiz’s speech choir performance was truly remarkableβ€”a speech about the division the world faces and how we must move past them. The performance seamlessly combined amazing choreography, heartfelt emotions, and a compelling narrative. Lastly, Grade 12 St. Pedro Calungsod’s speech choir performance was also emotionally captivating as it delivered a strong message about freedom and its importance.

Concluding this year’s performances was the closing message of our beloved principal, Ms. Silveria Teresa, who gave her heartfelt thanks to the PTA members, staff, and students, stating the importance of celebrating English as a language. In the end, it was an event everyone enjoyed and is looking forward to in the upcoming years.
