The Journey
The idea of making a school was initiated by its founder Christie Lemuel D. Lapingcao way back in 2006. It was a result of the routine he encountered when he laid low his work in order for him to do the hands on experience of caring his first child. Full of enthusiasm and excitement, he did the pampering daily without feeling an ounce of exhaustion. It was through these series of parenting activities where an idea of forming a school came into his mind as a way of extending the same love and care he exemplified for his child to as many children as he could. Balancing out his options well, he thought of inviting people to help him in making the idea a reality. One by one he tried to approach as many individuals as he could until in 2009 he came along with several acquaintances and have known few individuals to join him in his crusade. A short meeting with a few invitees happened sometime in that same year. But the breakthrough happened sometime in April 2011 where a sufficient number of member incorporators were reached in a meeting called for the purpose of forming a non-stock corporation. The name was then agreed to be Formative Academic and Skills Development School Incorporated.
Represented by its president, Christie Lemuel D. Lapingcao, the school signed a contract of lease for ten years in a lot with an area of 500 square meters. For a moment, it was believed that the lot would be the ideal location for the school since it was known then that many of the subdivisions will be placed behind it. Simultaneously works on the licensing and registration of the school began right away and at the same time construction of the planned building was initiated with a ground breaking ceremony. Finally, the school was officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on May 27, 2011, with its principal office address at National Highway, Cotcot, Lilo-an, Cebu. A formal grand opening on June 20, 2011 was made to commence the preparation for the school year 2012-2013. The occasion was done with a Holy Mass celebrated on that day. Many came along and have joined the celebration. That conservative gathering was wonderful and successful. Even though the school had officially opened for business, it was not expected that there will be enrollees since the school building is not yet completed. However, 9 preschool learners applied for enrollment. Ready or not, the school accepted the applicants even if the original plan was to simply start the construction and wait for the next school year 2012-2013.
In 2012-2013, the expected number of learners was no more than a hundred but it turned out to be more. The grade levels opened were Nursery 1 to 3, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 to 3. DepEd Permit was released early part of August 2012 authorizing the school to accept preschool and elementary up to grade 3. Then on March 17, 2013 the first school commencement exercise took place inside the campus of Don Bosco in Lilo-an, Cebu. It was a memorable moment for the school as it completed its first year of operation with a feeling of jubilation.
After the first year experience, the school saw the need for additional rooms. Right away construction of the second floor began in April 2013. Hopeful that the building will be done just before the middle of June 2013, the school accepted enrolees up to Grade 6 level. The population of the previous school year doubled.
In 2014-2015, the school began to look for additional area for its foreseen expansion. It was felt that the school should have playgrounds where the learners can freely do the physical activities, especially during PE period. The school continued to operate with bigger population size, but with the same number of rooms. There was this feeling of suffocation as about 281 learners compressed in an area of 500 square meters.
The school lost some of its learners in 2015-2016 since it failed to address the issue on space requirements. However, something big happened during this time. The school received its Government Recognition for Preschool, Elementary, and Junior High School.
In 2016-2017 the problem regarding additional space was finally resolved. A one-storey building was constructed in the lot across the school with an area of 4,000 square meters.
Additional rooms were built in 2017-2018 since the enrolees grew to three hundred ninety-six (396). The main office was converted into preschool classrooms.
In the early part of school year 2018-2019, the school made a standard basketball court and a covered stage. Three more classrooms were built to cater to the five hundred thirty-seven (537) enrolled learners.
